3-DAY PSYCHODRAMA RETREATThis advanced level of intervention is offered to those clients that are currently involved in ongoing psychotherapy. These
intensive therapeutic experiences are completely psychodramatic, meaning that each participant has an opportunity to "do", "un-do" and "re-do" a past or current unresolved psychological/emotional event. Psychodrama is similar to taking your issues to the stage, where the client becomes the protagonist and members of the group hold auxiliary roles that support the scene being brought forward for healing by the protagonist. Each participant is given the opportunity to complete their own individual psychodrama during the retreat. The intensive group process is ideal for in-depth healing. We are created to connect with others and we heal best in relationship with others, not in isolation. Participants heal directly through experience, but also indirectly by becoming a part of other group member's work and by observing the theraputic process as an audience (Dayton). After each psychodrama, all group members are given an opportunity to share what they experienced and observed in a process called action sharing. In this way, the group process both respects and supports each individual's growth and healing. Psychodrama is an excellent method which enables the enactment of past scenes (what happened), undoing the past by the expression of feelings and mobilzing actions that were thwarted at the time the event originally occurred. This facilitates a deep correction or repair. "The body remembers what the mind forgets" (Dr. J.L. Moreno). Therefore, psychodramatic action gives clients therapeutic avenues to explore body memories and blocked feelings by providing safe, grounded methods. Clients develop the skills of self-regulation and how to use sound to give voice to unexpressed experiences in a focused, meaningful way. Psychodrama intensives are scheduled with themes for treatment weekends based on participant need. Optimal group size is 6 to 8 participants. |
